Whitchurch Alport Ladies 4 Wem Ladies 1
Wem arrived at Yockings Park on sunday on a six game winning streak, being the form team in the league. Alport on the other hand where still licking there wounds after two straight loses. On a fogging afternoon a crowd of around a hundred plus turned out to shout the teams on.Straight from the kick of Alport started to knock the ball around the park with the whole team involved in neat passing resulting in a few half chances. When Wem tried to make any openings Skipper Hannah Thomas back to her best broke it up and started another move for Alport. With Alport continual causing problems out wide, it was no surprise when Sarah Field opened the scoring with a neat finish. The new partnership in the centre of midfield of Amanda Davey and Lucy Radcliffe took total control of the centre of midfield, and again a neat passing move resulted in Sarah Field scoring her second of the game.Just before half time Dominique Soler challenged the keeper and the ball ran loose for her to give Alport a three nil half time lead.
With the fog coming down the teams turned around almost striaght away to get the game going once more. Both side created a few chance, but it was down to the girl in red hot form to score a back post header Sarah Field, to give her a well deserved hat trick and eight goal's in three games to the delight of her Manager and Coach !!!!!! as her goal target is looking some what low. The delight of the goal was soon forgotten after what looked a serious injury to Skipper Hanna Thomas and the withdraw of Amanda Davey with a knee injury. As Alport reshuffled there pack, Wem took the game to them and it was no surprise when they scored through Alix Robinson. Emma Lewis then left the pitch with injury, followed by Kerry Walker and Lucy Radcliffe a passager after running herself into the ground, With Alport having only nine fit players on the park another goal for Wem would have made it very interesting in the later stages. A special mention for Dominique Soler who held the midfield together for the team when it mattered.
Overall a grest advert for Ladies football in the County League, Alport where outstanding in the first half and many sides would have been blown away. Wem never stopped and kept there shape to a man, even at four nil down they pushed to get back into the game and can take great credit for there performance.
On the Alport front harsh words have been spoken over the last few weeks behind closed doors, with the whole team answering there Manager and Coach. Injury wise Hannah Thomas has very heavy bruising and will be out for a few weeks. All the others should be fit for Sunday, including the return of top striker Bridie Edwards who has been out for five weeks with a knee injury. Also the return of Lucy Rradcliffe to the team made a big difference on the day.
