WHITCHURCH ALPORT LFC V ALLSCOTT LFC
PRE SEASON FRIENDLY 5TH AUGUST 2007.
Allscott finally got their pre season programme off the ground with a visit to County League side Whitchurch Alport, the only team to beat them in last seasons promotion winning year.
In a strange first half, where both sides looked decidedly rusty, it was Whitchurch who took the lead half way through the first 45 when Kerry Walker sprinted through the Allscott defence to wrong foot the keeper and score on her debut. Both sides could have scored before the break but spurned their chances.
The second half gave a much better taster for what is to come for the teams in their respective leagues in the coming season. Bridie Edwards persistence paid off when she beat the defence to slot home for on her Allscott debut, her first goal for the club coming against her old side!
The experience of Allscott's players should have paid off in the second half but Lorraine Oliver fired over the bar from just inside the box, and that set the tone for the rest of the game. The fact that the game was played on the hottest day of the summer so far probably had something to do with the tiredness shown in most of the players at the end of 90 minutes.
The 1-1 final score line is probably a true reflection of the game and the new players for both sides will have given their managers plenty of food for thought.
