Wem knew when the draw was made that TNS would be tough opponents. We were looking forward to the challenge of playing a team from several leagues above us who obviously would be more experienced. For the first 25 mins the game was a tight affair then Wem took the lead when Rosie scored with a high shot from 20 yards. This goal seemed to shake TNS and they suddenly moved up a couple of gears and with their one-twos in and around the box created chance after chance and by half time were leading 6-1. Wem came off at half time hardly believing the scoreline but the football TNS were playing would overwhelm most teams.
The second half would certainly test the spirit of the Wem team with a lot of teams possibly throwing in the towel. But this was not the case here. Everyone battled throughout the second period but still TNS ran the game from midfield and no matter what Wem tried they couldnt find the answers. Six times TNS scored in the second half. Due to injuries Wem played for an hour with ten players. Sam made me laugh after the game when she said if we had ten players it felt like they had 15 on the pitch.
It certainly looked that way. Like I said earlier experience is a massive thing in games like this and our oldest player was 17 however im sure our players enjoyed and learnt alot from this game.
