TGLFC 2 WEM WANDERERS 3

HAVING LOST TO TGLFC ON THE OPENING DAY OF THE SEASON WEM KNEW THEY WOULD BE IN FOR A TOUGH GAME. WEM HOWEVER STARTED BRIGHTLY AND TOOK THE LEAD ON 15 MINS WHEN GEORGIE NEWSOME TURNED A CORNER IN FROM CLOSE RANGE. 0-1. WEM WERE DEFENDING STRONGLY AND LOOKED TO CATCH TGLFC ON THE BREAK. KIM RUTTER WENT CLOSE TO DOUBLING THE LEAD WHEN A SHOT CAME BACK OFF THE POST. TGLFC DREW LEVEL ON 35 MINS WHEN A POWERFUL SHOT FROM 18 YARDS FLEW INTO THE TOP CORNER.  1-1                  HALF TIME 1-1.

PLAYING UPHILL IN THE SECOND PERIOD WEM WERE HOPING THE BALL WOULD HOLD UP ALLOWING THEIR SPEEDY STRIKERS TO GET BEHIND THE HOME DEFENCE. ON 60 MINS TGLFC TOOK THE LEAD WHEN A LOW SHOT CREPT INSIDE THE POST.   2-1    WEM RESPONDED STRONGLY TO THIS GOAL AND DESERVEDLY EQUALIZED ON 70 MINS WHEN ROSIE COOPER GOT ONE ON ONE AGAINST THE HOME KEEPER AND SHE CONFIDENTLY FINISHED.  2-2 BOTH SIDES WERE CREATING CHANCES AT THIS STAGE BUT IT WAS  WEM WHO EDGED IN FRONT ON 80 MINS WHEN ALIX ROBINSON BEAT THE OFFSIDE TRAP AND LOBBED THE KEEPER FROM 18 YARDS   2-3.   TGLFC REACTED TO THIS BUT WEM WERE NOT TO BE DENIED THE VICTORY AND NEARLY ADDED A FOURTH GOAL BUT ROSIE SHOT WIDE WHEN WELL PLACED. THE FINAL WHISTLE BROUGHT A GREAT REACTION FROM THE WEM PLAYERS WHO ALL PLAYED A VITAL PART IN A GREAT WIN.

WEMS NEXT GAME SUN 23 SEPT HOME V BRIDGNORTH   2PM KICK OFF
TGLFC V WEM NO2

16TH SEPTEMBER 2007

In the rematch of the game two weeks ago both teams started brightly, with end to end play and chances  both ends.  Wem broke the deadlock early in the game with goal from Georgie Newsome. 0-1
Both sides created openings but could not seem to find another way through, until Jade Hill passed the ball for Anna Sorbom to equalize to make it 1-1 at half time.

Ten minutes into the second half TGLFC went ahead, courtesy of another bit of magic from Hill; she rode two challenges to curl the ball into the net. 2-1. Not long after that Wem were fortunate when Sorbom's shot hit the foot of the post and then bounced off the keeper and away from danger.  Wem then caught out the TGLFC defence when they were split by a well weighted Kim Rutter pass that Rosie Cooper collected, and went on a fine solo run to slot past the keeper. 2-2.  Cooper was almost through within a minute but Natalie Edwards made a good save on the edge of the box. Alix Robinson wrapped up the game for Wem not long after when she scored from a one on one with the keeper after another defence splitting ball over the top. 2-3. There were chances from both sides, Wem could have scored a goal which would have been almost identical to no.3 but for the width of a post, and at the other end Sarah Henn sent a free kick marginally wide of the near post.

Final Score - TGLFC 2 - 3 Wem
