TGLFC V BRIDGNORTH 16TH DEC 07

Bridgnorth launched the first telling attack of the game with Nat Edwards having to make a save at the feet of Nic Perry.  Jade Hill spurned a few early chances to put her side ahead, her best skimming the bar but Bridgnorth's Becky Allen was the most dangerous player on the pitch in the opening minutes, fizzing one shot wide then forcing Nat Edwards into a top drawer save.  Stacey McAdam launched a 40 yard effort that was well blocked by Abbie Cresswell. Leanne Moss orchestrated TGLFC's next telling move which saw Rosie Taylor blocking Anna Sorbom's shot before making a superb second save from Hill's follow up. Bridgnorth looked certain to take the lead, when with Edwards beaten, Vicky Coleman popped up to clear off the line. TGLFC took the lead courtesy of Sorbom on the half hour mark but before the celebrations had finished they were rocked by a superb Allen goal to level the scores. Within a minute TGLFC conceded a free kick just outside the area Allen swung in a well weighted shot but Edwards was equal to it. Sorbom snatched back the lead for TGLFC with a well placed header into the roof of the net. Coleman powered a shot over the bar and Smart stabbed a shot just wide on the stroke of half time as TGLFC ended the first 45 with a spell of pressure.
The second half started much as the first ended, with Becky Downing pulling off some great defensive tackles to subdue the TGLFC strike force, but the home side grew in confidence and slowly began to increase their lead, Hill and Sorbom combined to force Rosie Taylor into a great reflex save and from the resulting corner Coleman fired home goal no.3.  Cresswell impressed again with a great block to stop Lou Smart, from the corner she conceded it looked odds on that Smart or Sorbom would score again but Taylor beat them to the ball. Sarah Henn tried her luck from the edge of the areas but Downing calmly nodded the ball to safety. It was all TGLFC pressure from then on in with Sorbom getting her hat trick and then Smart increasing her lead at the head of the leading goal scorer table with TGLFC's 5th goal. Hill led the next attack and shot from an angle; with Taylor beaten the winger was unlucky enough to see her shot bounce back from the post and cleared. Sarah Henn was provider when her cross found Hill who cheekily flicked the ball into the back of the net. Sub Charlotte Redden created TGLFC's 7th goal which Sorbom planted. Hill wrapped up the match then with probably the best goal of the game; she ran at the defence after receiving a Nikki Mason pass, skipped two challenges and with a zigzagging run beat the last defender to fire the ball in for the 8th and final goal.
The score line shows a comprehensive victory for TGLFC but does not really reflect the hard work and the chances created by Bridgnorth, who, in the first half, upset the rhythm of the league leaders and had looked well capable of taking the initiative.
