Ludlow 4 - 1 Dudley

12th October 2008

Dudley After 2 weeks with out a game we welcomed Dudley to the S.B.S stadium in a reversal of the fixture at the request of Dudley. We also had 2 players back from injury Lisa Preece and Becky Gallagher. This was the 1st meeting of the two sides since the thrilling consulation cup final at shifnal in which Ludlow won 5-2. Ludlow started the better side with good link up play and the passing was crisp and accurate and Ludlow benefited from this when Donna Powell made a clear-cut pass too Kerrie Taylor where it landed perfectly on Kerrie’s left foot, where she shot and the ball nestled neatly in the net. Soon after that Stevie Cooke unleashed a shot from the right side to make it 2-0.It was Dudley’s turn to put some moves together and this unnerved Ludlow as we began to look a bit ragged in midfield thus putting the Ludlow defence under pressure, Dudley broke through and the shot was initially saved by Lorna James but landed at the feet of a Dudley player who sent the ball goal bound and Donna Whitbread got a head on it but could not stop it going in. Dudley were back in the game and looking dangerous, they finished the first half the better team. Even after Kerrie Taylor got Ludlow’s third, a tap in inside the 6 yard box, after a determined lisa had done most of the work, the 2 goal lead now restored we had a cusion we could work with, it was now 3-1.The second half saw the same, Ludlow as the first 15 minutes of the first half with the passing and link up play back and as the game went on you could see the confidence back in the Ludlow ranks. Stevie on the right wing was linking well with the midfield players, Kelly Jones and Pip Jackman-day and Fran Dixon at right back, supporting Stevie on the wing without neglecting her defensive duties.Lisa Preece was replaced after 60 minutes by Lucy Matthews as se began to tire after a 4 week layoff. Donna Whitbread alongside Katy Huntbach and Holly Davies at left back gave very little away and Dudley attacks began to run out of steam. With Kerrie and Lucy rattling the woodwork in quick succession and Donna firing from distance it was left to Kelly Jones to put the game beyond Dudley as she burst through and squeezed the ball under Dudley’s keeper. Becky Gallagher replaced Holly Davies for the last 10 minutes after being out for 6 weeks and came through with no adverse affect.
All in all a great day for Ludlow.

Well done girls
