Shropshire League kick-off
Tuesday, 06 September 2005.

At an emergency meeting on Monday 5 September Shropshire FA and club officials agreed that the Shropshire Women’s County League would officially start on Sunday 2 October 2005.

The League had been in doubt when a couple of teams had folded and others were struggling to recruit new players or managers.

However, the League was given a boost when Shrewsbury Town Women FC, Whitchurch Alport, Bridgnorth Town Ladies and Wooforton Ladies all confirmed they were entering teams.

From 2 October all teams named will play home and away fixtures until Christmas.

To provide Shropshire County League teams with the opportunity to put these skills against a wider market, Shropshire FA are looking to host an invitational Challenge Cup where Women’s Football teams from outside the county will be asked to play.

This new competition will run alongside the prestigious Sir Steve Roberts Cup giving teams a multitude of games to develop their skills.

Even though the League starts within three weeks, there is still time to enter a team. Why not enter your college, sixth form or even work teams? "Never thought of Football? - Now’s the time!"

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY WOMEN'S LEAGUE
ARCHIVE
New league for Shropshire
Wednesday, 21 July 2004.

An exciting new development in women's football in Shropshire has just been announced, with the formation of the Shropshire County Women's Football League.

The league will commence in September. At present, six teams have indicated their desire to play in this league: Shrewsbury Town, Oswestry, Ludlow, Wem Bridgnorth and Whitchurch. Other teams that are still considering entering the league include Telford and Team 2000.

All new teams are now required to enter a County League before progressing through the Football Association pyramid.

A committee has been formed and all relevant officers have been appointed. This new league and the formation of a new under-16 girls league now gives Shropshire clear pathways for girls and women’s frootball.

Schools football sessions and promotion of the game for girls has led to a record number of players wishing to play the game and the formation of new clubs for the forthcoming season.

Over 600 players will take part every week from Under-10 to 12 to 14 to 16 to County League; a very significant number of female players for the county of Shropshire.

If any new clubs would like to join the league, please contact David Rowe, Shropshire FA Chief Executive before 10 August for registration details.

It is hoped that a cup competition named the Sir Steve Roberts Cup involving all the Shropshire County League teams and teams from adjoining counties will also take place during the season.
