As part of the Shropshire Football Associations ongoing commitment to the FA National Game Strategy, a consultation event took place on Monday 23rd March 2009 at the Shropshire County Council, Shrewsbury. The event was designed to give an update on The FAs National Game Strategy (2008 12) and most importantly, give league and club officials the opportunity to have their say regarding the delivery of the female game in Shropshire and how we can drive Girls & Womens Football forward. The areas debated included: How to take forward the female game in line with the FA Womens strategy Gain feedback from league and club officials to help formulate the way forward. Strengths and weaknesses of present structures Possible restructure of leagues (1 league administering) U9 U11 U13 U15 U 17 Open Age A SWOT analysis session took place with regards to Girls & Womens Football and present structures in Shropshire. STRENGTHS Success / Talent of players/schools & clubs in the County. Already established Strength in depth at Junior Level (more clubs involved) Plenty of opportunity to play at junior level (U10 U16) County FA staff given help & advice to start up clubs People who care Dedicated unpaid volunteers Respect Campaign The structure as it currently is (U10, U12, U14 & U16) FA backing WEAKNESSES Dual administration system for county Facilities Cost No county dialogue for cup games Referees not wanting to do girls football Massive drop out rate from U16 open age football Player commitment Centre of Excellence communication between clubs & centre / Players not being able to play for club, playing solely for the COE / clubs loosing players to COE and potentially clubs folding. Recognition of female football (marketing) Very little support from mens teams Present League structure not flexible Having to play 7 v 11 at some matches Too big a jump playing 7 then 11a side (possible 9 v 9?) 7 day signing on rule Cant sign players after end of February Priority to male football Sunday (am)Pitches Coaching courses running Sat (when girls league plays) easier for boys football coaches to attend these courses. Technology( FA Full Time) Lack of teams Fixtures No co-ordinated thinking between junior & senior teams Not making use of strengths ie, exceptionally gifted kids ending up playing outside of county OPPORTUNITIES Pyramid system in place to prevent loss of players between players between junior & open age Single Admin system Work with Hereford & Worcestershire to play more fixtures (Adult) To put into place a coherent plan to benefit all the girls/women in the county the small population makes it easier to make it possible STFC to provide tickets during the season (each club to go once during the season Opportunity for growth Player pathway / club progression Futsal League / Summer League / Festivals U17s (Principle) Flexibility from Leagues Chance for change Administration courses coming out soon by FA To make all teams of an equal stature THREATS Poaching players Volunteer workforce Decline of girls football Expense of playing Loss of facilities Loss of players County League needs re vamping otherwise It will not exist Doing nothing Soccer 7s U16S Dropping out of football U17s (To county & girls who want open age) Changing age groups, should stay U16, not odd numbers Players giving up because of getting beat every week Catchment area, good teams getting all the players Players not getting to COE DEBATE ON U9 / U11 / U13 / U15 / U17 / OPEN AGE Phase in from the bottom up ( U9s /U11s) Keep U12s /U14s & U16s Structure falling in line with schools, i.e. Primary schools playing mini soccer till U11, then secondary schools playing 11 v 11. U16s too young to be playing adult football?? Lack of girls @ U17s & Adult U17s/U18s detrimental to Women County League Introduce U8s Festivals & coaching once a month at central venue Suggested structures U10 / U12 / U14 / U16 / Open age (Keeping same) U9 / U11 / U13 / U15 / U17 / Open age U8 / U9 / U11 / U12 / U14 / U16 / Open age Name of new League to be finalised by senior officers of both leagues with a mediator in place to guide both leagues through the process of change Existing officers of the Shropshire Womens County League & Shropshire Girls League to be part of any new structure. DEBATE ON RE STRUCTURE OF LEAGUE All agreed that the Girls & Womens Leagues Structure should fall under one umbrella, therefore working closer together to prevent loss of players between players between junior & open age Action point - League committees to discuss together with their officers and their clubs. The information and views collated at this event will form the development of the strategy for the delivery of the female game in Shropshire. )*+46AB]^_ C ylblylTlyJy@y@hGOJQJ^JhE OJQJ^Jh3h3H*OJQJ^JhdEOJQJ^Jh3h3OJQJ^Jh3OJQJ^J h35#h]h]5CJOJQJ^JaJh]5CJOJQJ^JaJh35CJOJQJ^JaJ&h]h35CJH*OJQJ^JaJ#h]h S5CJOJQJ^JaJhdE5CJOJQJ^JaJ#h]h35CJOJQJ^JaJ+B^_- .
