BRIDGNORTH SPARTANS LADIES V WHITCHURCH ALPORT LADIES

For Bridgnorth Spartans this was clash of the titans.  The two teams always battle hard for the all important win and today was no different.

The afternoon started with both teams participating in a minutes clap in memory of Lucinda OWEN, a Whitchurch player who tragically died last week.

Both teams were eager to start but it was Whitchurch who applied the early pressure and seemed to dominate the play.  They showed some real talent in their moves which saw them have several shots on the Spartans goal.  Their efforts denied by the strong hands of Bridgnorth's keeper Rosie TAYLOR, who really controlled her area.

Spartans seemed flat footed as Whitchurch continued to pass freely about the pitch.  It seemed that Spartans would never penetrate the strong Whitchurch defence until the sheer quality of Vicky HARPER saw her power a long range unstoppable ball over the visiting keeper into the back of the net...1-0 Spartans.

The second half started with real passion, Spartans clearly hungry for more goals.  Skipper Nic PERRY and winger Lou HUDSON linked up well to push the squad forward.  Spartans had several attempts on goal but were denied by some excellent Whitchurch interception.

Yet again Kirsty HAYWOOD was impressive for Spartans, with some well timed challenges preventing Whitchurch pursuing their attack on the home goal.

Whitchurch, never a team to dwell, came from behind and fought for every ball.  An impressive shot by Whitchurch caused hearts to sink amongst the Bridgnorth supporters as it dipped towards the home goal, saved at the last second by the fingertips of TAYLOR to push it over the crossbar.

Ten minutes into the second half striker ALLEN was replaced by Anna SORBOM, who much like last week shone on entering the field.  Almost immediately she pressured the opposition and found herself behind a deflected ball to send the second passed the keeper...2-0 Spartans.

Bridgnorth, determined to build on their lead continued to display some great football.  Gemma KAY always strong went slicing down the centre of the field, opening yet another opportunity for Spartans, yet again denied by the visitors.

The persistence of Spartans saw a confident strike by PERRY glide into the top left hand corner...3-0 Bridgnorth.  Not a single head dropped amongst the opposition and it wasn't long before some determined moves gave them the space to pull one back...3-1.
