Bridgnorth Spartans V Ludlow Town

It was yet another meeting for Bridgnorth Spartans and Ludlow Town and after a tough meeting the previous week, where Bridgnorth just came out on top, it was guaranteed to be an equally challenging game for both team as the week before had been.

The cup match kicked off in less than ideal conditions, it was bitterly cold and also sleeting, however, the situation was more difficult for Ludlow as they started the match with only ten players.  Bridgnorth made the most of this advantage and transferred it into a well worked goal finished by player of the match Nicky Perry.  Bridgnorth kept the momentum going, even when Ludlow managed to field a full team of eleven half way through the first half, and scored a fantastic goal by Becky Allen, who took on tow Ludlow players and slotted it past the Ludlow keeper from an awkward angle.  However, the away team started to play some good football and got into their stride, but Bridgnorth ended the half on top.

Half Time - Bridgnorth 2 - 0 Ludlow

With the weather remaining treacherous it didn't however stop Ludlow starting off strongly.  The Bridgnorth defence had a lot to deal with, but just about managed to keep the ball out of the net.  Despite this Spartans then settled down and played some clever, passing football which led to a chain of corners.  Many of the corners were very well delivered, causing the Ludlow defence problems.  The pick of them was Sarah Owen's strong delivery into to box resulting in Carly Whitehouse striking the ball towards the goal, which was just saved on the line by the Ludlow defence and keeper.

As the second half passed on, Ludlow pressurised even more, which eventually resulted in a break through, which left Spartans unable to clear the ball, and Ludlow midfielder Stevie to finish with ease.  This set back didn't falter Bridgnorth however, even with Ludlow's renewed hope, Spartans battled on showing their immense spirit in the last fifteen minutes and holding onto the win.
